TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The police have started to implement the instruction of Jakarta Police chief (Kapolda) Insp. Gen. Putut Eko Bayuseno, who told the personnel not to use uniform after their night shifts. He also demanded the police not to patrol alone.
Agus Tri, personnel of the Jakarta Police traffic unit, said he has started to implement the new rule. "I no longer use uniform or any other attribute when I come home from work," he said at the Jakarta Police headquarter yesterday. "When we patrol, we do it in group, or at least in pair. Purwantono, another officer, also said the same thing. "We no longer use attribute, especially when we come home at dawn. We obey the chief’s instruction."
Jakarta police spokesman Sr. Comr. Rikwanto said the rule was meant to prevent attacks against the police. All police personnel in Jakarta, Bogor, Depok, Tangerang and Bekasi have to obey this rule. Earlier, Adj. First Insp. Dwiyatna of the Cilandak Police in South Jakarta was shot dead by an unknown entity. The same thing also happened to Adj. Second Insp. Fatah Saktiyono.
