TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian Forum for Budget Transparency (Fitra) criticized DKI Jakarta Governor Joko Widodo’s love of impromptu visits to villages and rural areas in the city, which has been coined his ‘blusukan’ data-style. They accused him of using up the city’s funds for this activity and atttempting to bolster his image.
Fitra’s director for advocacy and investigation, Uchok Sky Khadafi said that Jokowi’s blusukan is included in the 2013 operational support expenditure amounting to Rp26,670,450,000 per year. Uchok claimed the budget is regulated in the Governor’s Decree no. 10/ 2013 issued in February. They compared Jokowi’s supporting operational expenditure to his predecessor Fauzi Bowo’s expenditure of Rp17,640,355,000 last year.
Uchok also said that Jokowi’s impromptu visits make him seem like a nationwide celebrity because he is known by many poeple. He believes a governor should not only try to form public opinion, yet also try to solve the city’s issues such as traffic congestion and floods.
