TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Tired of being second-fiddle, Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP) politician Maruarar Sirait said his party is ready to win next year's election, and lead the government in 2014. "PDIP had spent two periods as the opposition party. We plan stop being the opposition," he said on Tuesday, July 9.
"We are a big party preparing to be the ruling party," Maruar said. Based on a number of surveys, Maruarar is confident that PDIP can lead Indonesia next year.
"Everyone can read [the surveys], Jokowi and PDIP has the highest electability."
PDIP has yet to decide who their presidential candidate would be. The party's top priorities for now, said Maruarar, are to prepare for the legislative elections, winning seats on several provinces and educate their cadres.
He added that the naming of a presidential candidate is left entirely in the hands of Chairwoman Megawati Sukarnoputri. "It depends on Ibu Mega," he said.
