TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Governor Joko Widodo has 'unexpectedly' prepared specially designed flats for the evicted residents of the Pluit Reservoir. There are more than 17,000 households in the location, which will be evicted for the normalization of the reservoir.
Joko's plan was revealed after some NGOs and architects claimed to have received the order for the flats' design. "We initially proposed an alternative concept of flats to the Jakarta administration," Dian Tri Irawati, one of the researchers from urban planning institution Rujak, told Tempo on Monday, June 3. Dian said that in addition to Rujak, some architects from the University of Indonesia and the Architecture Community were also involved in designing the flats.
Jokowi also explained that the government has provide a 7,5 hectares land for the flats. "The Governor had asked us to design flats that are capable of accomodating all of Pluit residents." said Dian.
