TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Attorney General's Office failed to arrest Comm. Gen. Susno Duadji, former chief of the crime unit at the Indonesian Police (Polri) Headquarters, in Bandung on Wednesday. Susno, who was convicted of corruption, is now under the protection of the West Java Police.
"We see that the convict and his lawyers felt the court's decision could not be implemented," head of the Attorney General's public information center, Setia Untung Arimuladi, said yesterday.
Around 10:30 am local time, 20 people from the Attorney General's office, the Jakarta High Court and the Bandung District Court arrived at Susno's house. Amir Yanto, Adj. Chief of the Jakarta High Court, said that Susno was escorted away by armed officers.
"The bodyguards said that the Police Chief ordered them to shoot if the arrest was forced," Amir said.
During the arrest, a dozen members from the Hezbollah Brigades, a wing organization of the Crescent Star Party (PBB), also arrived at the scene.
"We were ordered by the PPB's chairman of the Shura Council, Yusril Ihza Mahendra to help escort Susno," said the PBB's under secretary for West Java, Tatus Sundra.
Moments after Yusril arrived, Susno went out through his garage. He went straight to a police car parked in front of the garage.
"Mister Susno has asked for protection from the West Java Police, and the chief of Police has granted his request," Yusril said.
