TEMPO Interactive, Jakarta: Chief of the Supreme Court (MA), Bagir Manan, has promised to complete legal process of the Bali bombing case and has therefore called on the Balinese people not to be overemotional during the ongoing legal process. Bagir made this promise in response to the beating of the Bali bombing suspects lawyers on Tuesday. The Bali bombing is a tragedy that has made the Balinese and others suffer. It is a huge and comprehensive case, he said at his office on Wednesday (8/1). According to Bagir, all parties should control themselves to maintain justice. He said he was sure the Balinese were able to do this, as he knows them to be friendly people. At the same time, Bagir called on the lawyers to be friends so that the legal process will not be disturbed. Assist the suspects so that the legal process will run smoothly and uphold the law, he said. Regarding the lawyers--Muchlas and friendswho want the trial to be moved from Bali to another province, Bagir said the local district court and prosecutors office must give permission first. If this is agreed, then it is Minister of Justice and Human Rights who has the authority to order the move, he added. He went on to say that a move would be permitted if the trial were threatened. So, not every obstacle is considered as a reason to move the trial, said Bagir. (Sri Wahyuni-Tempo News Room)
