TEMPO Interactive, Jakarta:President AbdurrahmanWahid is convinced that no one will demand hisaccountability for his government’s performance duringthe People’s Consultative Assembly (MPR) SpecialSession next August. “I will only deliver myresponsibility speech at the end of my presidentialterm in 2004,” President Wahid said in a discussionwith a congregation of people gathered at a Fridayprayer at a mosque in East Jakarta this afternoon(08/06).
President Wahid was also sure that there would be noevaluation of the relations between legislative, executive and judiciary. A decree by the MPR, hesaid, must not lead to an evaluation of the presidentand the government. The president is therefore surethat the MPR will not go ahead with a decree for himto stand down. “I don’t mind that they want to holdthe special session. However, the MPR must notdiscuss the things which I’ve mentioned here,”President Wahid said.
The President related this to his representatives whowill meet with the political parties’ leaders soon. The president declined to provide details of when such a meeting will take place.
