TEMPO Interactive, Banda Aceh:Dialog between the Free Aceh Movement (GAM) and Indonesia held in Geneva on February 2-3 seems unable to stop the violence in Aceh. Ironically, one point of agreement was to end the fighting and create a peaceful environment for the local population. The spokesperson of the Indonesian Military (TNI) Operation Command, Infantry Major Zaenal Mutaqin, said to Tempo News Room today (8/2) that Sergeant Bustami (from Keumala Pidie Military Command) and his younger son Erizal Fiyanda (3) were shot on Thursday (7/2). Zaenal Mutaqin said Sergeant Bustami was dropping his eldest son at U Gading primary school that morning. In front of the school, an unknown man shot him and Erizal. Bustami was shot on his stomach. Another shot fired by the stranger went through Erizal’s stomach. Zaenal Mutaqin said the gunman was a GAM member who had been following Bustami for some time. The man has not been caught and the authorities continue to search him out. Meanwhile, about 11:30 this morning, GAM members ambushed 10 TNI personnel headed by Marine Sergeant Seny Wijaten. They were conducting patrol in Kampung Bireun, Tanah Luas, North Aceh. There was a 15-minutes exchange of fire between the two groups. During the incident, Zaenal Mutaqin claimed the TNI shot dead four GAM guerillas. Three of the dead are Iswandi (23) from Kampung Puloblang, Iskandar (30) from Kampung Aluengom, and Herman (23) from Kampung Lhong. The fourth victim still could be identified. Zaenal said some evidence were found when the TNI cleaned up the area, such as two AK-47 rifles, two M-16 guns, a grenade thrower, 485 AK bullets, 230 SS-1 bullets, 16 M-16 bullets, 2 GLM ammunitions, 4 GAM waistcoats. At the time of reporting, GAM still had not confirmed the incident. (Zainal Bakri)
