TEMPO Interactive, Jakarta:Golkar Party chairman, Akbar Tandjung denied he had dismissed Muchyar Yara, one of Golkar's functionaries. At the DPR (House of Representatives) today (8/2) Akbar said Muchyar was suspended from his post in the party’s national executive council. He said that Golkar had suspended 19 functionaries, including Muchyar, because most of them had been appointed to other posts, such as ambassadors, governors, district chiefs and chairmen of Golkar’s provincial councils. Further, some of them failed to demonstrate serious commitment to supporting the party's activities. “Muchyar is one who falls into that last category," Akbar said. He added that Muchyar never attended meetings, but liked making statements outside the meetings. Akbar also said the reason for suspending Effendi Yusuf, another functionary, was because as chairman of the party’s national executive council, he failed to implement his task in coordinating provincial councils. “As a result, the provincial councils felt they were not getting any attention from the national council,” Akbar said. He added that the suspended functionaries will eventually have a chance to regain their posts. Eki Syahrudin, appointed to an ambassadorial post, may get back his post when his assignment as envoy ends, so long as the current membership of the national executive council has not changed.
