TEMPO Interactive, Jakarta:Indonesia will hold a meeting with Australia and Timor Lorosae (East Timor) in Denpasar, Bali, on February 26, 2002. Foreign Affairs Minister Nur Hassan Wirayuda made the announcement to the press after attending a cabinet meeting at the State Secretariat office this afternoon(7/2). Though this will be the first tripartite meeting, Wirayuda said it is not a new idea. “The idea was first suggested by former president Abdurahman Wahid,” he said. President Megawati approved of the idea of holding consultations between the three countries and decided to follow up on it. Wirayuda refused to elaborate on the agenda of the meeting. Wirayuda stressed that the meeting would discuss cooperation between the three countries. He denied the planned meeting would touch on differences that once caused relations between Indonesia and Australia to deteriorate. As previously reported, following his meeting with Howard, Wirayuda said that Indonesia and Australia would each seek to develop the right formula in building bilateral relations with Timor Lorosae. Bilateral relationship between Indonesia and Australia deteriorated after referendum was held in East Timor. (Dara Meutia Uning-Tempo News Room)
