TEMPO Interactive, Jakarta:Both conflicting sides in Maluku and Halmahera have reached significant progress in the peace process. Economy and education will be a priority in the reconstruction of the strife-torn regions. House of Representatives (DPR) Speaker Akbar Tandjung made the comment after meeting 13 members of Maluku’s Baku Bae (Reconciliation) Team, in his office here today (9/3).
Akbar sees the Baku Bae concept will open a big chance for peace in Maluku. “The people have accepted whatever the law decided,” Akbar said. Besides, the government and security forces were asked to pay attention to the children who still cannot go to school. “We have to heal the children from their traumatic experience,” Akbar added.
Meanwhile, the Baku Bae Team said the process of handling post-conflict situation needs a great concern. “The concern from the government, legislators and people from other provinces over the problem is greatly expected,” said Mahfud Nuku Hehe, a member of the team.
