Kaban Insists on RAPP

The minister of Forestry MS Kaban said on Wednesday there was no problem with the operating license Issued by the ministry for Riau Andalan Pulp and Paper in the province of Riau. MS Kaban said “the permit was legitimate,” responding to Azmun Jaafar testimony at the Corruption Court.

Azmun Jaafar head of the Pelalawan District Administration in the province testified on Tuesday that the license for 12 subsidiaries of RAPP was issued under the supervision of MS Kaban. Kaban said Azmun has received money from the company and the problem was not on the license.

Azmun told the court that district administration only had the authority to issue production license on timber while the license to cut down trees from the area was given by the Ministry of Forestry.
