TEMPO Interactive, Jakarta:Jakarta Police have announced they will question former president Abdurrahman Wahid as a witness for embezzlement, swindle and extortion amounting to Rp 15 billion as reported by Tommy Sohearto. Abdurrahman "Gus Dur" Wahid is due for questioning next Monday (7/1). Jakarta Police would also question Gus Dur’s wife, Sinta Nuriyah, on Tuesday (8/1) and their daughter Yenny Zanuba Wahid on Wednesday (9/1). “We are preparing their summons for despatch today,” said the spokesperson of Jakarta Police, High Commissioner Anton Bachrul Alam, this morning (3/1). Anton explained that Tommy handed over Rp 15 billion to Dodi Sumadi and Kiai Sidiq at his house on October 29, 2000. So far the investigation has found that Rp 5 billion of these funds were given to the Puan Amal Hayati Foundation headed by Sinta Nuriyah and Rp 5 billion to the Islamic boarding school headed by Kiai Sidiq. The remaining amount was given to the Supreme Court and South Jakarta District Court to achieve clemency for Tommy’s involvement in a corrupt land deal between PT Goro Batara Sakti and the State Logistics Agency (Bulog). However, Anton did not explain whether Tommy himself had handled these funds. “We are still investigating that,” he said. (Sam Cahyadi-Tempo News Room)
