TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian national police is starting its initial investigation upon the alleged rape case experienced by a female student of the Gadjah Mada University (UGM) which was perpetrated by her male classmate at the end of 2017.
“The victim will soon be asked for her statement who will be accompanied by appointed people,” said Indonesian National Police (Polri) spokesman Insp. Gen. Setyo Wasisto on Tuesday, November 13/
Throughout the investigation, according to Setyo, the victim will also be closely assisted by her lawyer and a psychologist. Meanwhile, the perpetrator himself has yet been named by the police as a suspect.
Police further said that it is currently collecting several eyewitness accounts that would later act as evidence prior to continuing the investigation.
“The initial investigation must have a minimum of two pieces of evidence to be further investigated,” Setyo explained.
As it was known, the female student from UGM’s political and social sciences faculty was raped by her classmate during her campus’ community service program (KKN) at Seram Island on December 2017. Setyo maintained that police will continue to investigate the case despite being a year-old case.
