TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The United Development Party (PPP) secretary-general Arsul Sani said President Joko `Jokowi` Widodo mentioned a name of the vice presidential candidate during the party coalition meeting last night, July 23. Arsul said the coalition party`s chairs agreed that Jokowi announce his running mate to the public.
“Pak Jokowi has mentioned a name and will later reveal it to the public,” said Arsul in Parliament Complex, Senayan, Jakarta, Tuesday, July 24.
President Jokowi held a meeting in Bogor Presidential Palace, Monday, July 23 with six supporting parties’ leaders. Attending the meeting were the Indonesia Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP) chairman Megawati Soekarnoputri, the Functional Group (Golkar) Party chairman Airlangga Hartarto, the National Awakening Party (PKB) chairman Muhaimin Iskandar, the United Development Party (PPP) chairman Muhammad Romahurmuziy, The People Conscience Party (Hanura) Chairman Oesman Sapta Odang, and the National Democrat Party (Nasdem) Surya Paloh.
Asrul said the candidate name was from ten names that previously circulated among the public as Jokowi’s running mate. They are Romy, Muhaimin, Airlangga, Ma'ruf Amin, Din Syamsuddin, Moeldoko, Said Aqil Siraj, dan Mahfud MD.
Jokowi, he added, would announce his vice presidential candidate on August 9 or 10. Arsul was reluctant to reveal from which party the candidate came.
PPP chairman Muhammad Romahurmuziy earlier said the meeting talked on several issues, such as the decision of the Constitutional Court that prohibited political party’s board of management as a member of regional legislative, the country's recent conditions in the economy and political sector, law enforcement, public prosperity, and candidates of vice presidency.
Romy said the party coalition strongly agreed in carrying out Jokowi as a presidential candidate in 2019 presidential election and recognized the six parties as a solid alliance of the presidential candidacy. However, the coalition would remain open should other parties willing to join, based on its agreement.
