TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Workers union of state oil and gas company Pertamina will hold a rally in a number of locations in Jakarta, as a form of refusal to the company`s plan in selling its assets.
The rally will be started around Monas (National Monument) square, Central Jakarta. The first spot is Pertamina Head Office at Jalan Medan Merdeka Timur to the offices of Ministry of State-Owned Enterprises (BUMN) and Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) at Jalan Medan Merdeka Selatan.
The rally that is dubbed as “Action to Defend Pertamina” will be started around 07:30.
"The participants have gathered,” said Head of Institutional Relations, Media, and Communications of the Pertamina workers union (FSPPB) Hendra Tria Saputra when contacted in Jakarta, Friday, July 20.
In some photos received by Tempo, the workers are seen lining up at Pertamina's fuel stations to protest the company for selling its assets and they threaten to stop the operations.
According to Hendra, hundreds of workers are participating in the rally from the registered number of 1,000 workers.
As previously reported, Pertamina planned to release a number of its assets to improve business portfolio performance. The company will soon propose it to the Ministry of SOEs as the shareholders of the company.
However, Pertamina Corporate Communication Vice President Adiatma Sardjito said the proposed letter is still a principle permit. The content of the letter is the permissions to shareholders to review Pertamina’s corporate action plan. “This is a long process,” Adiatma said in his statement on Thursday, July 19.
