TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Transportation minister Budi Karya Sumadi warned that he will take necessary actions from warnings to flight route closure against airline companies that sell flight tickets that exceed the fixed tariff that has been set.
According to Budi, there are actually no airline companies that have directly increased its tariff, however there are travel agencies or vendors that charge additional costs for a flight.
“It is why we need to clarify whether the money is acquired by the airline company itself or not. We will close their flight route if it’s proven to be that way,” said Minister Budi on Monday, June 11.
The Minister acknowledged that there were news reports regarding over-exceeding tariffs, especially in North Kalimantan. “The news pieces that were published several weeks ago are hoaxes,” he said. He further explained that it was caused by travel agencies that unilaterally increased the flight tickets.
Previously reported, the Transportation Ministry reminded potential customers to be more wise and careful before purchasing flight tickets during the Ramadan month. He also said that ticket prices are already regulated under Transportation Ministry’s Decree No PM 14/2016 on the mechanism and formulation or calculation and setting lower and upper tariff.
