TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - E-KTP graft defendant Setya Novanto said he was shocked to hear the judge gave him a 15-year sentence. The judges said that Novanto was proven guilty of corruption practices in the electronics ID card procurement during the budget year of 2011-2013.
His sentence was read out today at the Corruption Court, Central Jakarta. "To be honest I was really shocked. Because what was charged and delivered need to be considered; they are not in accordance with the trial," Setya said on Tuesday, April 24.

Nevertheless, the former House of Representatives (DPR) speaker said he respects the court's decision. He asked for a time to consider his next legal move, consulting with his lawyers and family members.
Setya's lawyer Maqdir Ismail said there is a chance for an appeal. He said that the judge did not mention the calculation of state loss.
"Because they did not make any comparison to the expert's testimonies," Maqdir said.
In addition to the 15-year jail term, Setya Novanto is ordered to pay a fine of Rp500 million that can be substituted with an additional jail term of three months. He is also stripped off of all political rights for 5 years.
