Becakayu Incident, Minister: Bad Evaluation, License Not Issued

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Minister of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) Basuki Hadimuljono suspends all the overpass constructions in Indonesia to be evaluated following the accident at Becakayu Toll Road on Tuesday, February 20. He hopes the policy will not interfere the completion target of the infrastructure projects.
Basuki said the infrastructure project evaluation process will take time, but not too long. The length of evaluation of each project is different.

After the evaluation result from the Construction Safety Committee (K3) come out, the PUPR Ministry will issue a permit to continue the project. If the evaluation result indicates an error, the permit will not be issued.
K3 will also recommend sanction for project owners if there is an error. The sanctions range from warnings to license revocations.

Basuki said the evaluation will be done thoroughly. The examination will be seen from the design, the method of work, equipment, until the human resources. The Ministry of State-Owned Enterprises will also evaluate the company that in charge of building the infrastructure projects.
The accident at Becakayu Toll road is in the form of the collapse of the iron buffer framework (timber bracket) at the project pile.
