Jakarta Police Ensures Safe Christmas, New Year Celebrations

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Metro Police chief Insp. Gen. Idham Azis has ensured safe Christmas and New Year celebrations in the capital city.
“We have to convince 12 million Jakartans, that on Christmas and New Year holidays Jakarta will be safe,” Idham said at Monas square last night.

Idham has instructed his subordinates to launch raids on firecrackers and thugs as well as ban mass organizations from conducting sweeps. He also called on precinct police to form designated teams to crack down on motorcycle thieves (begal).
Jakarta Metro Police spokesman Raden Prabowo Argo Yuwono earlier said that 10,000 cops will be deployed to secure Christmas and New Year’s Eve. “We will carry out an operation with the code Lilin Jaya 2017,” he said.
The operation will last 10 days from December 23 to January 1.
