TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Sufi Dasco Ahmad, chairman of the Ethics Council (MKD) at the House of Representatives (DPR), said that the letter sent by DPR Speaker Setya Novanto will not affect the MKD’s decision to discuss ethics violations committed by Setya.
“I read about [Setya’s] letter on social media. It’s a request letter. A request may or may not be approved,” Dasco said at his office in Jakarta on Wednesday, November 22.

Yesterday, Setya sent a letter pleading the MKD not to hold a hearing related to his removal as the DPR chairman or member. Setya Novanto, who has been named as a suspect in the electronic ID card corruption case, also asked for time to prove his innocence.
Dasco asserted that the letter would not affect MKD’s decision, since it’s an independent institution.
Dasco added that he has not yet received the letter from Setya. He explained that he knew about the letter from social media. Therefore, he said that the letter must be verified.
Yesterday, the MKD scheduled a meeting with DPR factions’ chairmen to decide Setya Novanto’s fate as the House Speaker. However, the meeting was canceled since a number of chairmen and secretaries could not attend the meeting.
