TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The wedding ceremony of President Jokowi`s daughter Kahiyang Ayu with Bobby Afif Nasution became the center of attention for most Indonesian people today, November 8.
The wedding was held at the Graha Saba Buana building in President Jokowi’s hometown of Solo, Central Java. The media focused the attention towards the wedding preparation until the ceremony which featured unique Javanese traditions.

1. No Wedding Gifts Allowed
A unique reminder was announced to the wedding guests, which stated that the bride and groom would not receive any form of wedding gifts from the guests.
A Solo resident who was invited to the wedding, Bambang Saptono, said that the friendly reminder was also written on a separate smaller card that was inserted in the invitation card. He claimed that the announcement is similar to the invitation of the wedding of Jokowi’s eldest son that was held two years ago.

2. Jokowi Apologized to Solo Residents
President Joko Widodo apologized in advance to the people of Solo, Central Java, and local residents in the vicinity of the wedding event. The seventh Indonesian President apologized for the traffic congestion that might be caused by his daughter’s wedding procession.
“Representing the whole family, we offer our deepest apology to the people here who might be affected by the traffic congestion in the vicinity of the building. It might need to be rerouted for tomorrow,” said Jokowi on Tuesday, November 7.

3. Dozens of Becak Ushers on Stand By
Dozens of local becak (rickshaw) operators were available at the Graha Saba Buana building on Wednesday, November 8. They were wearing batik’s alike as wedding ushers, transporting guests from the parking area in the Banyuanyar field to the main building.
According to a becak operator who participated, Joko Pramono (60), the initial idea to have a fleet of becak drivers to usher guests of Kahiyang Ayu’s wedding was initiated by the Mayor of Solo F.X Hadi Rudyatmo.
