TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - A researcher from Destructive Fishing Watch (DFW) Indonesia estimated that disruption to salt supply will only occur temporarily since salt harvest is approaching.
"Government and citizens do not need to panic in facing salt scarcity since it is only temporary," the DFW Indonesia researcher Subhan Usman said on Saturday, July 29.

Several areas of the salt center, he added, will soon harvest salt and supply it to the market. Despite the case, he advised the government to form a team to investigate the disruption of salt supply that causes a dramatic increase of the price lately.
The government, he continued, needs to trace down whether the scarcity is caused by manipulation of distribution by ‘mafia’ or by the low salt stocks in the inventory and market.
"If the scarcity is caused by manipulation, then the government need to take strict actions and sanction the perpetrators," he said.
Subhan also suggested the government improve salt production management and trade system.
