TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Deputy Governor Candidate Djarot Saiful Hidayat has urged his supporters not to be provoked by the issues of SARA (ethnicity, religion and race) during the 2017 Jakarta governor election.
He said that those issues are now widespread in the cyber world.
"To all our volunteers, please do not be provoked by those issues. Those are primitive ways to impose your beliefs to others. It’s not in line with Indonesia’s cultures and democratic values,” Djarot said in Central Jakarta on Saturday (18/3).
He also told his supports not to use those issues during election as it’s against Pancasila (state ideology) and the spirit of Bhinneka Tunggal Ika (unity in diversity).
Djarot added that he and Basuki Tjahaja Purnama did not run for the election out of the wish to rule but the people’s support to finishe the programs is reason the run in the election.
