TEMPO.CO, Seoul-Foreign tourists in Seoul will have a chance to learn dances like K-Pop idols from professional choreographers, the government of Seoul said Thursday, October 15.
The program is part of Seoul’s effort to provide tourists with unforgettable experiences, so as to attract more visitors to South Korea.
Under the project worked by the Seoul Metropolitan government and S.M. Entertainment, professional dancers affiliated with one of the country’s major management agency will make K-Pop dance classes specifically for foreigners visiting the country.
The classes open on Mondays and Tuesdays at SM Town in southern Seoul, based on earlier agreement between Seoul Mayor Park Won-soon and S.M. Director Kim Youn-min.
Since August 2015, when the project was first launched, more than 850 K-Pop fans enrolled for the class or have nearly doubled from the expected capacity of 450 people.
"The government will form a joint committee with private entities to maximize the hallyu, through which we will be able to create more jobs and to boost the quality of the tourism industry," Park said in a statement.
"More experience-based programs will be available, such as K-pop vocal classes and Korean language classes with Korean soap operas," he added, showing efforts to support relevant industries.
S.M. Entertainment manages numerous celebrities including Girls’ Generation, Super Junior and EXO.
