TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Pertamina had dismissed a rumor saying that there was a shortage of subsidized fuel in several regions. Pertamina's Marketing and Commercial Director Hanung Budya, said that the current phenomenon was a result of the government's adjustment on fuel control policy.
"The [subsidized fuel] quota has been reduced from 48 million kiloliters to 46 million kiloliters. Therefore, we have to take adjustment measures," Hanung said on Monday, August 25, 2014.
According to Hanung, Pertamina had to reduce its daily distribution of subsidized fuel by five percent for Premium and by 10 to 15 percent for diesel fuel (Solar) at gas stations across Indonesia.
In an effort to compensate for the reduced quota, Pertamina has increased the supply of non-subsidized fuel, such as Pertamax and Pertamina Dex.
"[Reducing subsidized fuel quota] was a tough decision, but we have to assure the public that this is not fuel scarcity. It's just our policy to control [fuel consumption]," Hanung said.
