TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Chairman Board Trustee of the Democrat Party, Amir Syamsudin, said that many parties hoped for Joko Widodo (Jokowi) to be the bridge in the cold relationship between President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono (SBY) and Megawati. According to Amir, the improvement of both figures’ relationship are hoped to give good impact for Indonesia.
“We could place that hope to Jokowi,” Amir told Tempo on Monday, August 25. He said that Jokowi had just been elected to be the new President to replace SBY. “A president certainly has the quality to make efforts and do huge things,” he said.
SBY and Jokowi will be meeting each other in the future. However, the meeting will be likely to discuss the transitional process from the former President to the new President. Amir opined that people will certainly want to see good achievements by the new president-elect in the first 100 days. “I think Mr. SBY will be willing to help and cooperate,” said the Minister of Law and Human Rights.
Amir does not want to assume that the meeting of SBY and Jokowi is the initial coalition between the Democrat and PDI-P party.
Amir said that SBY never had a problem with Megawati. Amir stated that SBY always place Megawati in a respectable position. For instance, SBY always greets Megawati if they had a chance to meet. “He does it consistently,” Amir said.
