TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The lawyer of presidential candidate pair Prabowo-Hatta, Firman Wijaya, said his team has filed a lawsuit against the General Election Commission (KPU) with the Central Jakarta District Court following lawsuits filed to other two institutions, the Constitutional Court (MK) and the Election Organizers Ethics Council (DKPP). Firman believed the KPU had committed an act of against the law.
"The basis of the lawsuit is material and non-material losses suffered by our clients inflicted by the election on July 9, 2014," Firman told Tempo earlier today. "The lawsuit is the KPU’s consequence as an institution."
However, Firman has yet to reveal the people who were disadvantaged by the KPU. He said that eight people, who could have gained Rp100,000 a day before the election, lost their income due to the presidential election.
The lawsuit was different from those filed to the MK and the DKPP. Firman said it was rather related to criminal act.
The result of the trial could not be used as an evidence to dispute the presidential election result with the MK. "It was filed to prove that the KPU has committed an act against the law," said the lawyer.
Prabowo-Hatta’s legal team filed the lawsuit on August 14, demanding the KPU to pay Rp120 million to its eight client as a damage relief. In addition to the KPU, the presidential candidate pair Joko Widodo and Jusuf Kalla was also on the list of the lawsuit.
