TEMPO.CO, Batam - Haze from the forest fire in Sumatra and Kalimantan has been estimated to become worse within the next couple of days, especially in Batam and Singapore. Batam Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) has raised awareness for residents especially land and sea transportation users.

Batam BMKG Director Phillip Mustamu said the haze may thicken, limiting visibility. Three days ago, visibility reached 1,000 to 1,500 meters. Today, June 20, visibility only reached 1,000 meters. The worsening situation was predicted based on the increase in the number of hotspot from 138 to 1,403 spots in Riau.

Meanwhile, the number of hotspots in Jambi and Kalimantan has also continued to increase. "The residents are on alert, especially those who use inter-island transportation. The haze may become thicker," Phillip told Tempo.
