TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesia and Palestine reacted strongly against the statement issued by Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison who plans on following the steps of United States government by moving its embassy to Jerusalem.
“The Jerusalem issue is one of six issues that need to be negotiated and resolved as a final part of a comprehensive attempt towards peace,” said Indonesian Foreign Affairs Minister Retno Marsudi.

Minister Retno asserted that Indonesia’s position in Palestine-Israel issue will stay consistent with the two-state solution. The Indonesian government is also paying serious attention towards Morrison’s announcement and maintains to support a peaceful solution for Palestine and Israel.
Her statement that reaffirms Indonesia’s stand was one of the focal talking points of the Palestinian Foreign Minister Riyad al-Maliki on Tuesday, October 16, who said that Morrison’s statement is a sad news since it violates the United Nations resolution.
Furthermore, Maliki longs for Indonesia to take legitimate steps in responding to Australian PM’s statement. He hopes that the Indonesian government can communicate and remind Morrison of Australia’s initial commitment.
