TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Vice President Jusuf Kalla is confident that Indonesia got hold of three achievements upon hosting the 2018 Asian Games in Jakarta and Palembang, which is the success in preparing its facilities and infrastructure, organization, and athletes’ achievement.
“I say congratulations for us all that have successfully held the 2018 Asian Games and achieved three successes from the event’s facilities and infrastructure, organization, and athletes’ achievement,” said the vice president during his speech at the Asian Games closing ceremony at the Gelora Bung Karno stadium, Jakarta, yesterday.
According to Jusuf Kalla, the government managed to accelerate the construction of the games’ arenas and the supporting transportations such as the light rail transit (lrt) in Jakarta, Palembang, and West Java.
Achievement wise, the vice president said that Indonesia recorded history by finishing the Asian Games gold medal tally at fourth spot, which is the first since the quadrennial sporting event was held in India back in 1951.
“From finishing 17th at the 17th Asian Games in Incheon, South Korea with four gold medals and currently improving that to 31 gold medal tally,” said VP Jusuf Kalla.
By the end of the 2018 Asian Games, Indonesian athletes successfully exceeded their goal by finishing fourth after China that ranked first, Japan in second, and South Korea in third.
