TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The National Police (Polri) Headquarters will build a special terrorist detention center in Cikeas, Bogor Regency. According to National Police Chief Gen. Tito Karnavian, the plan had been approved by President Joko 'Jokowi' Widodo.

The Cikeas detention center will be able to accommodate up to 340 prisoners. Construction is scheduled to start this August and completed by the end of 2018.

"We will use a container system from Spain," said Tito here on Tuesday, August 7.

The construction of a terrorist detention center is to anticipate the increasing number of terror suspects arrested by the police; especially since the Mako Brimob prison could no longer hold terror convicts following a riot that broke in May, which killed five policemen and a prisoner.

Terror convicts from Mako Brimob Prison had been transferred to Gunung Sindur, while terror suspects are now detained in several regional police cells in areas where they were arrested.

"We ordered to put the terror suspects in a separate cell with tighter security," said Tito.

The Densus 88 anti-terror squad had arrested more than 200 suspected terrorists within the period between the bombings in Surabaya and the weeks before the 2018 Asian Games starts.
