Police Deploy 400 Personnel to Secure FPI Rally at Tempo Office

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - South Jakarta Police will deploy 400 personnel to secure a rally planned by mass organization Islamic Defenders Front (FPI) at Tempo office building today, March 16.
“[There are] around 400 personnel,” said South Jakarta Police Chief Mardiaz Kusin Thursday evening, March 15.
The mass participated in the rally is expected to be around 200 people as informed by the FPI to the police. "Based on the notification letter, the mass is expected to be around 200 people," said Jakarta Metro Police officer, I Gede Nyeneng, through a text message Thursday evening.

Poster about the FPI rally has been spread through social media. The mass organization protested to a cartoon of their leader Rizieq Shihab in one of the editions of Tempo Magazine. FPI views the caricature has insulted and ashamed Rizieq Shihab.
FPI spokesman Novel Bamukmin confirmed the protest. FPI wanted to meet directly with Tempo’s leaders. "Including the Editor in Chief," he said. The mass asked Tempo Magazine to apologize to the Muslim community.
Based on the notification, Gede said the mass from FPI will assemble at its headquarters in Petamburan, Central Jakarta before Friday Prayers and then they will head to Tempo office building at 1 p.m. after the prayers.
