TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesia`s men`s doubles pairing Marcus Fernaldi Gideon and Kevin Sanjaya Sukamuljo has won a Badminton title in China Open 2017.
In yesterday’s final at Haixa Olympic Sports Center, Fuzhou, China, the Indonesian leading duet ended Denmark’s Mathias Boe/Carsten Mogensen 21-19, 21-11.
As predicted before, the match between the first and second seeds would be tight from the off.
The Danish pairing led early with 6-3 but its Indonesian counterpart fought back by leading 9-8. The domination did not last long as Boe/Mogensen caught up and heated up the game.
At 14-13 for the Danes, Marcus/Kevin scored four consecutive points and took control. Even though Boe/Mogensen had reduced the deficit to 18-19 and 19-20, the Indonesian pairing managed to snatch a victory after Kevin smashed the shuttlecock into the right side of the opposition’s court.
Marcus/Kevin beat Boe/Mogensen with ease in the second game by 21-11.
As such, Marcus and Kevin retained China Open title after winning it last year by overcoming the same opponent 21-18, 22-20.
