King Salman Meets with Indonesian Interfaith Figures

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - King Salman from Saudi Arabia was scheduled to meet with a number of Indonesian interfaith figures today. Head of Human Relations at the Ministry of Religious Affairs, Rosidin Karidi stated that President Jokowi and Religious Affairs Minister Lukman Hakim would be present at the meeting which would be held at Raffles Hotel, Jakarta, at 14:00 Indonesian Western Time.

Rosidin explained that a number of interfaith organizations will present at the meeting. One of them is the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI), Indonesian Communion of Churches (PGI), Indonesian Bishops Conference (KWI), and many other. “The representatives of six faiths are invited [to the meeting],” he said on Friday, March 3, 2017.

However, Rosidin admitted that he was not aware of the agenda. “The Palace organizes the agenda,” he said.

This is King Salman's second meeting with religious leaders after he met with Islamic public figures yesterday, March 2, 2017.

Previously, Religious Affairs Minister Lukman Hakim Saifuddin issued an apology in advance if not all of mass organizations were invited following the limited time and space. The meeting with King Salman will discuss the role of religion in creating world peace.

“Our actions in combatting violence, terrorism, extremism, will be firmly established through the meeting,” Lukman said on Wednesday, March 1, 2017.
