TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta governor candidate Basuki "Ahok" Tjahaja Purnama said that he will appear before the Police's Criminal Investigation Unit (Bareskrim) on Monday, November 7, 2016, for questioning over the alleged blasphemy.
"A good citizen must comply to [Police] summons," Ahok said on Thursday, November 3, 2016, after meeting with residents of East Pejaten in South Jakarta.
Ahok said that he was already aware of the summons, even though he had yet to receive the letter of summons from the Bareskrim,.
Ahok was reported to Jakarta Metro Police by the Anti-Religious Blasphemy Forum (Forum Anti Penista Agama/FUPA) for an alleged blasphemy during his visit to the Thousand Island regency.
The case started when a video snippet showing Ahok's speech before the Thousand Islands residents went viral on social media. In the video, Ahok said that that some people had told others not to elect a non-Muslim as their leader based on a a verse from the Quran.
Ahok denied insulting the Quran in his speech, and had twice extended his apology for the remarks.
