Hurrican Matthew; KJRI Houston Warns Indonesian to Stay Alert

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian Consulate General (KJRI) in Houston, Texas, has urged the Indonesian citizens to increase their awareness following the hurricane Matthew in the U.S., according to a statement received in Jakarta on Friday, October 7.
“KJRI has urged Indonesian citizens in Florida, Georgia and its surroundings to always be aware and comply with the local government’s regulation, as well as monitor the weather condition,” said the warning.
According to KJRI, in the anticipation of facing hurricane Matthew, which is expected to be in category III-IV hurricane with a wind speed ranging between 15-125 mph, the US Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has advised everyone to always be on alert in responding to the instructions from the authorities.
Indonesian citizens have also been advised to inform the development of their personal condition and its surroundings by contacting KJRI Houston via email info@indonesiahouston.net or through kjrihouston@prodigy.net.

KJRI Houston also conveyed that if communications between families are delayed due to a natural disaster, the American Red Cross through its website “Safe and Well” http://disastersafe.redcross.org/ could assist in informing families that you are in a good and safe state.
Families and friends can find people’s names who have already registered and confirm that they are safe and well.
Hurricane Matthew has significantly grown stronger on its way to Florida and has been considered as one of the most powerful hurricanes in the U.S. in the last 12 years.
With the category 4 hurricane, it is expected to strike Florida in the early hours of Friday (local time).
The hurricane that was formed above the Bahama island has destroyed most part of Haiti, killing at least 264 people and causing the evacuation of thousands of people.
