TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Agency for the Assessment and Application of Technology (BPPT) will begin to convert biomass energy to liquid and gas fuel in an effort to shift to renewable energy.
Hammam Riza, BPPT's Deputy Chief of Technology, Information and Materials, said that BPPT and the Technology Research Partnership for Sustainable Development (Satreps) have discovered a technology to convert biomass energy to liquid fuel and gas in Indonesia.
"Biomass energy is a type of fuel that is made by converting biological materials, such as plants. In order to convert that energy, gasification technology is needed," said Hammam on Friday, February 19, 2016.
Hammam said that the initative to utilize biomass as a renewable energy source was carried out in an effort to find a solution for the global oil crisis.
Hammam confirmed that extensive use of fossil fuel has caused global environmental issues such as the gas house emission produced from motor vehicles and industrial activities.
