Indonesia-Germany Joint Research Finds Seaweed As New Alternative

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Influenza or flu is a common disease found in Indonesia as a tropical country. It may occurs all year long. An Indonesia-Germany joint research has found that herbal medicines can be an alternative to fight this communicable disease.
Latest innovation resulting from the collaboration between pharmacy companies PT Interbat, PT Quasae Husada and a German company Evoria GmBH has produced an antivirus spray that prevents influenza occurence and soothes early symptoms of flu. The spray uses a substance called Alskinova derived from Kappahycus seaweed originating from Indonesia. Alskinova acts as antivirus by blocking and preventing the virus penetrate into human cell.
Other natural substance proven to be performing antivirus activity is the extract of Cistus, which is also known as Pink Rock Rose, a plant that grows in the wild of Mediterania.
