TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Adisutjipto Airport operator has tightened the security after a breach incident involving Mario Steven Ambarita who hitchhiked on a wheel well of a Garuda Indonesia jetliner from Pekanbaru Airport, Riau, to Soekarno-Hatta Airport, Banten.
Edwin Wibowo, Adisutjipto Airport spokesperson at PT Angkasa Pura I, said the company’s board of directors has issued a circular letter on airport security improvements, including assigning Air Navigation’s officers to watch airplane aprons from a tower.
“The security is also tightened by deploying officers to conduct patrols,” Edwin told Tempo on Friday, April 2015.
In addition, the airport operator also relies on security assistance from the Air Force since the airport is located near the Air Force Academy complex and the Air Force base. Edwin said that the company has yet increased the number of security personnel due to budget restraint.
Adisutjipto Airport currently has B terminal with a size of 600 meter square to serve domestic and international flights. The terminal is capable of accommodating at least 7,000 passengers per day. Annually, the airport can accommodate about 1.2 million passengers.
