Foreign Company Tried to Buy Me Out, Minister Susi Claims

12 March 2015 14:00 WIB

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Minister of Marine and Fisheries Susi Pudjiastuti said a foreign businessman once tried to bribe her to lift the ban on the use of nets and trawls—as stipulated in the Minister of Marine Regulation No.2/2015. The businessman, she said, wanted to buy out the rule for Rp1 trillion.

"I was offended that a businessman actually tried to exchange that rule with Rp1 trillion," Susi said at her office, Wednesday, March 11. "I told him, I can not be bought!"

The rule is based on the principle of sustainable marine resources. The use of nets and trawls is considered not environmentally friendly, and can damage the marine ecosystem.

"My opinion and principles cannot be bought for Rp1 trillion," she said.
