TEMPO.CO, Zurich - James Rodriguez was awarded with the 2014 FIFA Puskas Award for the best goal of the year. The Colombian star was deemed to have scored the best goal in the match against Uruguay in top 16 tier of World Cup 2014.
Rodriguez got 42 percent of votes, defeating runner-up female footballer Stephanie Roche (33 percent) and Dutch striker Robin van Persie (11 percent). James, known globally as a Colombian icon next to Shakira, began a worldwide sensation for his pretty face and excellent skills as a footballer, which he displayed during the World Cup campaign last summer.
James scored the award-winning goal with a volley shot. Having received a pass from Abel Aguilar, James took control of the ball and unleashed a cannon shot with his back against the goal. The hard, fast ball hit the bar first before ricocheting into the net.
