TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Coordinating Minister for the Economy Sofyan Djalil confirmed on Thursday, November 06 that the government will increase subsidized fuel prices this month. The minister, however, did not reveal the amount of the increase.
Sofyan also refused to elaborate on reported suggestions for the government to raise the prices by Rp3,000 per liter.
"I haven't heard about that. [It] will be announced later," Sofyan said, adding that the government has opted to reallocate the fuel subsidies from non-productive sectors to more productive ones.
Vice President Jusuf Kalla earlier confirmed that the policy to cut fuel subsidy will take effect in November, as the process has been prepared.
The government is currently distributing the Indonesia Healthy Card (KIH), the Indonesia Smart Card (KIP) and the Family Welfare Card (KKS) as means of social protection programs for people that will be most affected by the hike.
