TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Japanese tech company Toshiba Corporation will invest US$1 billion or around Rp10 trillion in the next five years to expand its business in Southeast Asia.
Toshiba Corporation CEO Hisao Tanaka said this vision stresses the importance of Southeast Asia and Indonesia for Toshiba. The money would be invested in the next five years. "The value is the same as Toshiba’s investment in Southeast Asia in the last 20 years," said Hisao yesterday.
The company wants to contribute in Southeast Asia and Indonesia by making growth. Unfortunately, Toshiba is yet to be able to reveal the exact value of its investment in Indonesia since the needs in each country are different. "We’ll see later how much is the investment in various countries is," said Tanaka.
Toshiba Corporation Corporate Representative-Asia Corporate Vice President Fumio Otani said: "The investment will be diverse, but we have three pillars; energy, storage such as data center and health treatment." Tanaka also said that Toshiba was ready to compete with products from other countries like China in the ASEAN Free Trade in 2015.
Toshiba’s optimism is due to Toshiba having new technologies that China's companies do not have. "We also have manufacturing centers spread in Asia," said Tanaka.
