TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Director General of Foreign Trade at the Ministry of Trade Partogi Pangaribuan, said that the government will issue a new beef import quota for the fourth quarter of 2014. "It is still in progress," he said.
The import clearance will later be given to recommended companies, and will be valid only for October, November, and December. Partogi added that the beef quota will be increased by 10 to 20 percent due to an increasing demand of Australian Beef from United States and China. Therefore, Australian beef price is expected to increase by 20 to 30 percent.
However, Partogi claimed to be optimistic that Australia will not reduce their import quota, despite having higher demand from United States and China. "We have been doing business with Australia for a while. Australia respects us," he said.
