TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Chairman of the Jakarta Chamber of Commerce and Industry Eddy Kuntadi said that Marunda Bonded Zone is an appropriate location for the construction of a new plant of Taiwan-based Foxconn Technology Group — the holding company for the world’s biggest electronics manufacturer, Hon Hai Precision Industry Co. Ltd.
The reason, he said, is because Marunda has a direct access to Tanjung Priok seaport.
"The access is beneficial for the company’s efficiency,” Eddy said on Friday, 22 August 2014.
He also said that that the construction of Foxcon plant in Marunda is also in line with the plan of the Jakarta provincial government to relocate industrial plants to the outskirts of the city.
In addition to regulating location zone, the measure is also expected to reduce air pollution from transporting vehicles and from the sewage plant.
He added that the construction of the plant in Marunda is also expected to prevent influx of newcomers to the city.
Meanwhile, the Jakarta provincial government is now reviewing the location for the construction of the plant.
Jakarta Deputy Governor Basuki Tjahaja Purnama said that Foxconn demanded too much land in Marunda Bonded Zone, North Jakarta.
Therefore, the Jakarta provincial government is now considering to relocate the factory to Jakarta Industrial Estate Pulogadung, East Jakarta.
In the meantime, KADIN, Eddy said, gives its support for the construction of Foxconn plant in Indonesia.
Eddy said that the reason for constructing a factory in Jakarta means that there is investment value in it and it can also stimulate economic growth in the city.
In addition, the decision shows that Foxconn consider Jakarta to have a positive industrial climate.
Therefore, Eddy suggested the Jakarta provincial government to regulate the location zone for industrial plants before the cooperation contract between Foxconn with PT Jakarta Propertindo is signed.
In addition, the provincial government, he said, also has to prepare incentives for the company, which will make an investment of Rp12 trillion.
"The incentive will become a bonus for them and stimulate them to accelerate their investment,” Eddy said.
