TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Announcement of the presidential election result by the General Election Commission (KPU) this afternoon will affect political mapping in Jakarta. If the Joko "Jokowi" Widodo-Jusuf "JK" Kalla presidential ticket wins the election, Jokowi will automatically resigns from his position as the Jakarta governor to become president.

According to laws and regulations, Jakarta Deputy Governor Basuki "Ahok" Tjahaja Purnama will assume Jokowi's position as the governor. Therefore, the Jakarta Legislative Council (DPRD) has asked the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP) and the Gerindra Party, winning parties of the latest legislative election, to submit two names for deputy governor candidates.

"It can't only be one person because the DPRD has to choose," said DPRD chairman Ferrial Sofjan on Monday, July 21, 2014.

Ferrial said that anyone can be named as the candidates. "They can be [originated] from PDI-P, Gerindra, or professionals," he said.

Ferrial explained that the election of the new deputy governor will be conducted by the new DPRD members of the 2014-2019 period because, which will assume office on August 25, 2014. However, Ferrial said that this does not mean that Jokowi will certainly be nominated as the president because there is still no official announcement.

Jakarta PDI-P chairman Boy Bernardi Sadikin, said that they the party is yet to discuss the names of the candidates with Gerindra. The decision will be made by party officials depending on instructions given by Megawati Soekarnoputri and Prabowo Subianto.

Gerindra on the other hand, refused to comment on issues related to the deputy governor candidates.
