TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Several bus companies will set new bus tariffs one week before Eid al-Fitr. Andriansyah, secretary general of the Land Transportation Organization (Organda), said that most bus companies will apply upper limit tariffs for homecoming starting on Monday, July 21.
According to Andriansyah, bus tariffs will increase by 50-55 percent prior to Eid al-Fitr compared to regular days. The increased tariffs are predicted to return to normal on August 5, one week after the celebration.
Andriansyah added that the upper limit tariffs will not exceed the regulation that has been issued by the government. The tariff rate will be determined by every bus company.
Previously, the Transportation Ministry has issued a regulation on economy-class bus tariffs to anticipate the increase. Based on the Transportation Ministry Regulation No. 64/2013, upper limit tariffs for region I (Sumatera, Java, Bali and Nusa Tenggara) is Rp 161 per kilometer at maximum, while for region II (Kalimantan, Sulawesi and other islands) the limit is Rp 179 per kilometer.
