TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The National Narcotics Agency (BNNP) of Yogyakarta Province revealed that Yogyakarta and Sleman Regency becomes the areas with the highest number of narcotics abuse case during 2013 compared to other regions in the Yogyakarta Province.
During 2013, there were 90 cases of drug abuse surfaced in Sleman and 60 cases in Yogyakarta City. Meanwhile, there were 45 cases found in Bantul Regency, four cases in Kulonprogo, and zero report in Gunung Kidul.
According to the BNNP representative for Yogyakarta, Hanyoko, most cases in Yogyakarta were found in five districts which are Umbulharjo (18 cases), Gondokusuman (17 cases), Mergangsan (14 cases), Gendongtengen (11 cases), and Tegalrejo (6 cases). While in Sleman, most cases were found in Depok district (46 cases) which is also known as the center base of private colleges. In Bantul regency, 20 cases were found in Sewon Districts.
"To anticipate the increase number of narcotics abuse case, a stronger network is needed that involved the residents participation from the lowest level," said Hanyoko on Friday, March 7, during the launch of BNNP's new program 'Narcotic Free Village Empowerment (PKBN)' in Yogyakarta town hall.
"The people's involvements are needed, to monitor and suppress the potential drug abuse in their regions, and there is a competition for it," said Saptohadi, the Head of Yogyakarta BNNP, who also said that PKBN is projected to be an organization that ensures the monitoring of the established programs to fight drug abuse.
