TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Rockets were launched from El Khiam, South Lebanon, and hit north Israel, near Kiryat Shmona, at around 7.45, yesterday morning. No injured or damages were reported due to the attack. Israel countered the attack by firing at least 33 artillery.
According to Israel, there were five rockets came from Lebanon, but only one or two reached Israeli's land. South Lebanon is an area occupied by Hezbollah, a political party in Lebanon supported by Iran. In addition to Hezbollah, Palestinian factions also occupy the area.
Israeli Defense Secretary, Moshe Ya'alon said that Lebanon government and military are responsible to the rocket attacks. This is the first incident in the border since last August. Yaalon said that the military has responded the attack by "firing a large number of artillery to the position where the rockets came from. And, if needed, they will use more powerful guns."
It is not clear yet who has launched the rocket attacks. "This is a serious incident and violates UN Security Council Resolution Number 1701. It’s clearly aimed to disrupt the stability in this area," said Commander of UN Peacekeeping Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL), Major General Paolo Serra. UNIFIL has asked both parties to hold themselves. UNIFIL will deploy patrols to prevent further incident.
